Hello fellow inquisitive investors & welcome to 2022.
Growth stocks have taken a beating in the past few months putting a serious dent in the portfolio, leaving it down 17% since September. I’ve taken the opportunity to buy some more of the same great companies such as Baba and Open while also adding UiPath to my portfolio. I personally am investing for the long term so these dips in the market do not concern me and as they say, this too shall pass.
Adding to my strongest conviction positions each month provides the opportunity to dollar-cost average into my positions and I have also been building up a bigger cash position to deploy if the market were to crash in 2022 being spooked by Omicron or the increase in interest rates or maybe even another black swan event.
Portfolio Overview
Bull vs Bear - Genius Sports Limited $GENI
A stock which has seen a significant drop in share price in recent months and one which I am considering adding to the portfolio is Genius Sports Limited.
Genius Sports in their own words “is the official data, technology and commercial partner that powers the global ecosystem connecting sports, betting and media”. (https://geniussports.com/). The company went public via a SPAC in 2021.
Bull Case - GENI works in the growing online sportsbetting industry and is more of a picks and shovel play that partners with (as opposed to competing with) the biggest sportsbetting agencies such as Draftkings, Fanduel, Pointbet to name a few. They also have the exclusive rights to process and sell data for the NFL for 6 years which is the most popular sport to bet on in the US as well as the English Premier League.
Bear Case - They are loss making and had a bad miss on their last earnings call with the eps coming in at -$0.37 vs -$0.12 for analyst estimates.
Below are some stocks currently on my watchlist:
CrowdStrike
Cloudflare
Plug Power
